Culdaff Climbfest

Culdaff Climbfest Frequently Asked Questions

1) Where is Bunagee pier for the camping?

Bunagee pier is located at grid reference C538507. The campsite is at C537509. From Culdaff village take the road over the river, it's on your right if you came down from McGrory's or on your left if you've just arrived in Culdaff from Carndonagh. Just follow the signs for Bunagee pier or turn right at every opportunity (ignoring unmetalled tracks and driveways).

2) Are there toilets/showers at the campsite? And water for cooking etc etc?

There will be portaloos, but no showers. There is plenty of sea. Water should be brought to the site. Bottled water can be purchased in the village. There is no running water at the campsite. Locals may be able to fill containers, but it would be unreasonable to presume as there are over 100 campers expected.

3) What time on Saturday morning are people meeting at McGrorys?

Some people will arrive on Friday night. Registration is taking place in McGrory's from mid morning onwards on the Saturday. Don't worry if you are late as the Climbfest organisers will be at the campsite later in the day and all weekend. There will be plenty of the up-to-date Inishowen Guide Books available. T-shirts are limited to the first 100 registrants.

4) Are a lot of the routes in the current Donegal guidebook?

Most routes are in the existing print version of the guidebook. More recent areas are documented in the Inishowen Guide which will be distributed at the Climbfest. There are routes being added all the time to the online database at www.colmcilleclimbers.com

5) Are there many routes that require an abseil start, i.e. they start over water?

Most routes can be reached without abseiling. Most routes are not over water. The majority of routes in Inishowen are single-pitch and no longer than half a rope. There are exceptions - so read your guide carefully and examine the topo photos.
